We saw a couple of tarantulas on our visit, but the coolest was when we found a tarantula skin on the ground right next to the dining area of the lodge. Come to find out, tarantulas actually shed their skin several times during their life, and this one was a freshly abandoned shell of a tarantula. Of course, what else do you do with a huge tarantula skin than play around with it? The kids all had fun holding the huge carcass, as you can see below. Apparently you have to be a little careful because, although tarantulas are not poisonous, the hair on their bodies can be irritating to the skin, according to the guides.
