Jamu River Lodge

After our 4 hour trip down the river, we arrived at Jamu River Lodge, where we would stay for the next week. The lodges are built on the rare pieces of dry ground, and are usually joint ventures between the local indigenous people and business folks.

The boat dock alongside the river led to a cement and wood walkway through the trees to the lodge itself. The plant life was as awesome as we suspected. Here are Tarryn and the kids on the walkway.

Another shot of the walkway, which was quite long. The lodge had to be built far enough back from the river so that even in the wet season the water would not flood the area. The trees reminded us of some of the places we went to in Cambodia, with huge tree trunks looping and curling around.

Here is Audrey, showing our general feeling of being in such an intensely beautiful place. It is so hard to capture the beauty of the place, partly because of the density of the foliage, and partly because it is all green and the camera cannot distinguish so well among the slight shade variations. At any rate, it was simply amazing.
