Message leaves

I can't remember what kind of tree this was, but it was pretty cool. It was explained to us that the indigenous folks used to use it before the introduction of paper to the region. You can take a little stick and write a message on the leaf. The writing doesn't immediately show up, but will do so after a minute or two.

Here is Jorie demonstrating how to write on a message leaf.

All of the kids were excited to try out the leaf, but it was a little hard on the patience to wait for a couple of minutes for the writing to show up. Here is Audrey, finally seeing her work turn out.

As you can see, Jorie wrote on her leaf, "Jorie Lefler is cool." She then wrote on a second leaf the message, "Daddy Lefler picks his boogers," or something to that effect, and gave it to me. Good times.

Not sure what Bentz wrote, but he was pretty stoked about it. Yes, and those are his pijamas and he has a large leaf stuck to him. I think we forgot to bring other long-sleeve t-shirts and were trying to avoid mosquitoes. The leaves were pretty cool. They had a fuzzy kind of back that looked exactly like the felt on a flannel board.
