Huevos Verde con Jamon (Green Eggs and Ham)

We have been so proud of all our kids in the way that they took on the challenge of going to school in a foreign language. It was difficult for all of them to be immersed in a situation where they understood no one and had no friends. This seemed especially difficult in the beginning for Audrey. She shed many tears those first couple of months of school, and convincing her to stay in class was probably one of the more difficult things for us as parents. We often doubted that we were doing the right thing, and imagined more than once that we were causing irreversible damage to our kids by throwing them into such a difficult situation. Luckily, kids are strong, smart and resilient. And we are lucky to have exceptional kids and wonderful teachers. Audrey's teacher was especially kind and nurturing, and the children in her class were eager to befriend her (if only the kids in the US were as kind to new students from other countries, I wonder how different their experience would be...). Within a couple of months, the kids really started grasping the language and understanding their friends and teachers. After that, school was just school - full of fun and friends.

When we started working on finding books for the library, we were pleasantly surprised to find that some of our favorites had been translated into Spanish. Audrey was so happy to find some of the Dr. Seuss books, and was eager to share them with her class. Here she is reading Huevos Verde con Jamon (Green Eggs and Ham) with the class. They loved it.
