Painting the house

d We have continued with a couple of other home improvement projects. Since the Lopez Perugachi family has never asked us for anything in the way of food or rent, we have wanted to contribute to the family. So in addition to buying fruits and vegetables and meat, we have contributed to the house. Carlos wanted the inside to be a sky blue. So we rounded up the kids and some of the mormon missionaries in the area, who agreed to help out. Here is Carlos, stirring up the first coat, which is not paint. It is some kind of powder that is mixed with water, milk, and some kind of paint-like material. The kids were all stoked to help out, and they actually did a great job.

fHere are Jorie and Audrey, applying the milk/paint coat. This is the kids´room, and you can see the black plastic that we helped to put up on the cieling in order to try and keep out the drafts. The girls were a great help, and worked throughout the day.

Here is Bentz, trying to slap on as much paint as possible, and me, trying to keep as much paint off the floor as possible. Since the floor is basically just rough cement, Carlos and Susana didn´t seem all that worried about the occasional paint splash, which helped when it came to getting after the kids for slopping paint around.

Here are a couple of the local mormon missionaries who were kind enough to come and help out with a service project. Here they are putting on the second coat, which is the actual blue paint. When it was all done, the walls looked fantastic, and has made such a difference in the inside of the house. It looks much less cave-like, and much more home-like.
